A father and his son were brutally bashed in a home invasion in Auckland early this morning.
A 63-year-old man and his 29-year-son were hospitalised after being badly beaten with a weapon, the older man suffering severe head injuries, a cut wrist, as well as a fractured back.
The
younger man suffered cuts and bruises to his face. A third female member of the Asian family was uninjured after the attack shortly after 5am in the upmarket suburb of Epsom.
Police are hunting three men and a getaway vehicle, which is damaged.
Detective Sergeant Graeme Timms, of the Glen Innes CIB, say police are looking for a dark green saloon with a damaged rear bumper on the passenger side and a missing wing mirror on the driver side.
He described the home invasion as a "very concerning, gruesome and cowardly attack on two defenceless victims, who have been seriously harmed.
The level of violence used by these cowards could have easily been fatal".
The three men are believed to be Pacific Islander, aged in their late teens or early twenties.
They are all approximately 1.8 to 1.9 metres tall and of medium build. All are believed to have been wearing dark clothing.
