Fatal fire at Waiheke rest home

The Fire Service is investigating a fatal fire at a rest home on Waiheke Island this afternoon.

The alarm was raised just before midday at the Retirement Village in Natzka Rd when a resident noticed smoke coming from a neighbouring unit.

Fire Service shift manager Scott Osmond said when fire fighters arrived, they found a body on the floor and there had been a small fire in the bedroom.
