Fatal car v tree road crash in Oamaru, North Otago

One person has died following a single-vehicle crash in North Otago last night.

The person was the sole occupant of the car which collided with a tree in Oamaru.

The crash on Reed St, in the town's central residential area, was reported to police about 9.15pm.

Police inquiries into the crash are ongoing.

Earlier this week a four-vehicle crash near Invercargill killed a father and his baby daughter.

Matthew Dale Harris, 22, and Ruby Jane Harris, aged 5 months, died after the crash on the Winton-Lorneville Highway (State Highway 6) on September 2.

A teenager was in a critical condition in Dunedin Hospital following the crash, while three other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed while emergency services spent the day investigating the scene, located about 150m north of the Makarewa Bridge.
