Fast ferry caught speeding

The Lynz fast ferry was caught speeding in the Marlborough Sounds last night.

Harbourmaster, Alex Van Wijngaarden, said he was investigating two complaints from residents when he caught the Lynx doing twice the normal speed limit at 8.30pm in the Tory Channel.

He said the ferry was travelling at between 34 and 37 knots in the channel when it is only permitted to travel at no more than 18 knots, due to the size and force of the wash it generated.

Mr Van Wijngaarden said he would be talking to the Marlborough District Council about a possible prosecution over what he described as a blatant breach of the speed limit.
