Gourmet grocer Farro is opening its eighth Auckland supermarket, with a new store planned in the central city suburb of Newmarket.
The supermarket will take over the former Liquorland site at 480 Broadway and open late this year, Farro chief executive Garth Sutherland said.
The proposed site has 70 carparks and three access points from Broadway and Mahuru St, as well as connections to northbound and southbound motorway routes, and would allow them to create an “authentic farmers market experience and vibrant foodie destination”, Sutherland said.
“Newmarket is a fantastic hub for shopping, dining and entertainment, and we know the ease of being located on Broadway will really appeal to local residents.
“Farro has always been about connecting independent New Zealand artisans and hard-to-find ingredients with Auckland foodies, and when Farro grows, so do the opportunities for those producers.”
As with other Farro supermarkets, the store would include an in-house fishmonger and butcher, with sustainably caught seafood and New Zealand free-farmed meats, Sutherland said.

The full range of Farro Kitchen ready-to-eat meals would also be available, and a deli would offer barista-made Allpress coffee, matcha, store-made salads and sandwiches, sweets from nearby patisseries, and local and imported cheeses and charcuterie, he said.
Goods from more than 500 New Zealand and overseas artisan suppliers would be on the shelves, including homegrown makers and restaurateurs such as Daily Bread, House of Chocolate, Cassia and Gemmayze Street.
