Farmer dragged his partner out of bed

A South Wairarapa dairy farmer has paid the price for losing his cool with his partner.

David September grabbed her foot and dragged her from her bed and down the hallway in front of her 5-year-old son, Masterton District Court heard this week.

The 27-year-old, who has no previous convictions, admitted assault at an earlier appearance and was convicted and discharged by Judge Tony Walsh.

Defence lawyer Virginia Pearson said her client had completed a Stop Violence programme and the offending was at the "lower end" of domestic violence.

"He has taken responsibility at the first opportunity ... he has a level of insight."

Judge Walsh said the woman did not need medical treatment but the violence was witnessed by the boy, leaving both frightened by September's behaviour.

This was of concern, he said.

"You lost your cool, pulled her from the bed ... that would have been very frightening for her and the 5-year-old."

It was pleasing for the victim to see September was "sorting his life out", the judge said.

He convicted September, discharged him and ordered him to pay $130 court costs.
