A man died instantly when he was accidentally run over by a truck and trailer unit on a farm in Mid-Canterbury yesterday.
He was Lawrence Joseph Naughton, 34, of Rakaia.
Senior Constable Mike Seque, of Rakaia Police, said the man had been working harvesting potatoes in a paddock at Dorieeast of Rakaia about 3.15pm yesterday. He was standing between the truck and trailer unit, beside the trailer's draw bar, when the accident occurred.
The circumstances surrounding the incident were still being investigated, Mr Seque said.
Police and OSH inspectors attended the scene of the accident and would continue their investigations for the rest of the week, he said.
