Farm worker to be compensated after sacking

A farm worker will receive more than $20,000 in compensation and lost wages after she was sacked following a series of spats at work.

Teresa Jansen worked for a family trust as a relief milker and calf rearer from July 2013.

Her husband Boyd also worked at the farm full-time for the MF Trust.

A newly released Employment Relations Authority decision said Ms Jansen was also asked to do other tasks around the farm by Rodd McKenzie, who managed the farms for MF Trust, and was in charge of employing staff.

Mr Jansen said in his evidence to the authority that a man assaulted him at the farm in August last year.

The man continued to work on the farm after the incident before he was sentenced in late October.

"Ms Jansen said that relationships with other employees on the farm began to deteriorate after 12 August, attitudes toward her changed and the friendliness was not there. Ms Jansen spoke to Mr McKenzie about ... her view that everyone was against her."

Ms Jansen's relationship with the trust ended on August 25 last year after conflict with other workers, authority member Helen Doyle said in her decision.

Ms Jansen said she was verbally abused by another worker but that worker claimed it was Ms Jansen who had the potty mouth, telling one worker to "f*** off".

Ms Doyle found that work relationships had broken down but they should have been sorted.

She ordered the trust to pay Ms Jansen about $12,000 in lost wages and $8000 in compensation.
