A rose here, a photo there, a poppy for all.
Relatives of fallen soldiers are decorating the white crosses in the Fields of Remembrance across Wairarapa.
Following the service to place the crosses, marked with fallen soldiers' names, relatives are placing rosemary, flowers, photos and historical notes beside crosses theyare connected with.
Shona Harris, Masterton, had three crosses to decorate yesterday.
Two of them, farmer Wyvern Edward Harris, Pahiatua and motor businessman George Pain Hutchinson Harris, Masterton, have crosses at Masterton Town Square, while farmer George Edward Harris has a cross in Martinborough Square.
Mrs Harris was decorating them with poppies she had knitted herself and the Harris rose, a rose brought over by the Harris family on settler ship Bolton in the 19th century.
"These are my husband's cousins, and [in Martinborough] is my husband's uncle."
