Family rips people off in the name of God

A nomadic extended family have been travelling the country claiming to be collecting donations for their church, Christchurch police say.

Sergeant Graham Duncan said the collection was not sanctioned by the church and the group had been "spoken to".

"We recommend that you check the bona fide nature of anyone asking for donations or collecting money.

"Do not give unless you are sure that they are authorised representatives," he said.

The group have travelled extensively throughout the North Island but have now moved south, he said.
