Fafeita throws down local challenge

National age group representative Alex Fafeita headed a list of encouraging results for Wairarapa field eventers at the Sam Johnson Memorial throwers-only meet in Hamilton.

With many of the local participants contesting the New Zealand secondary schools track and field championships in Wellington this weekend, the emphasis was on "fine-tuning" and Carterton-based coach John Quinn was delighted with his charges' progress.

Quinn was also delighted with the manner in which the Wairarapa competitors handled the pressure of the occasion, many of them recording personal best efforts.

Fafeita had two first placings, in the hammer with a throw of 59.44m and in the shot put with a put of 14.53m. and he was also second in the discus with a distance of 46.50m.

Javelin: Kassandra Hosnell 21.34m 2 (pb).

Hammer throw: Emma Kruszona 25.44m 8 (pb), Grace Quinn 22.17m 9 (pb), Alex Fafeita 59.44m 1.

Shot put: Dennis Peseta 10.99m 7, Tim Girling-McLean 14.33m 3, Ben Taylor 11.92m 6, Alex Fafeita 14.53m 1, Katie Smith 11.59m 2, Caitlyn Stallard 8.16m 6 (pb).
