The Pirinoa School paddock was full of children riding horses and ponies. Wild flowers bloomed and bees buzzed around the fresh green grass laced with purple clover. Bare foot children chased each other as they tethered their horses ...
One hundred and twenty five years later we are working ona student-led enterprise and planning to create a school farm in an unused paddock behind the old school house. The very same 'horse paddock'. What could we do? Raise some animals like chickens, pigs, sheep and cows. We would like a pig pen, a chicken coop and a shearing unit to shear the wool off our sheep. We could grow some tea in the paddock. We might even become a big company selling our produce to tourists that visit Lake Ferry or Pirinoa, all thanks to the old paddock. I'm sure it will be as much fun for us as it was for the students way back then ... 1887. It is great for the paddock to be coming back to life again and for us to be a part of it.
