The growing list of newcomers to Wairarapa United's Central League football squad has been extended after a leading South African player sought to join the club through a popular internet site.
Thabiso Tleane, 23, used Facebook to advise Wairarapa United of his availability should they be interested and aftera thorough check of his curriculum vitae coach Phil Keinzley gave him the green light.
"He should be a big asset to us," Keinzley said of the tall central midfielder who is expected to arrive in Wairarapa this Friday.
"He's got a reputation of being a hard-nosed player with good defensive and attacking skills ... he's scored 15 goals in the South African national league so he's obviously no mug in that department."
Tleane will be the fourth overseas player to join Wairarapa United in the past month, following Chileans Joerge de la Torre and Jonatan Almendra and Spaniard George Jermy.
A fifth player, Bryan Kaltack from Vanuatu, will follow suit about the middle of next month after completing his Oceania league commitments.
Plans are for all five players to not only be part of Wairarapa United's Central League squad but also to turn out for Heartland Wairarapa should their application to contest the national summer league turn out to be successful.
