ESR worker in court over DNA database leak

Police diversion has been offered to an Environmental Science and Research worker accused of illegally disclosing information from the national DNA profile database.

Alexandra Monique Cranstoun, 27, entered no plea to the charge when she appeared in Auckland District Court this morning.

She was bailed to reappear on August 28 if she failed to complete tasks set by police under a diversion scheme.

ESR said yesterday a staff member had been suspended following an investigation by police and ESR security staff.

The alleged security breach was the first since the databank began operating in 1996.
