Escape from blazing home

An occupant of a burning house had to climb out of a window to escape this morning.

The Fire Service was called to the house in Liverpool St, Levin, about 6am, Fire Service northern communications centre spokesman Jaron Phillips said.

He said one person was trapped inside a bedroom in the one-level house and had to escape through a window.

Three appliances were attempting to control the fire.
