Environment Canterbury councillors are set to vote themselves a backdated pay rise, two days before the polls close on local body elections.
In a move dubbed "greedy" by an Independent Citizens spokesman, the council will today discuss a 2.5 per cent rise in salary and allowances, backdated to either February orJuly, in line with a determination by Local Government Minister Sandra Lee.
The council could refuse to adopt the change, but chairman Richard Johnson wants to accept the maximum rate.
