A new report released by the European Energy Council and Greenpeace makes the forecast that 65% of the people working in the energy industry by 2030 will be employed in the field of renewables-wind, solar, photo voltaics, solar heating, and biomass.
The Global Energy Revolution 2012 was released this month, and aims to show a pathway to a reduction of CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050. The report says that in order to avoid the most catastrophic impacts of climate change, emissions will need to peak by 2015 and decline rapidly after that, reaching as close to zero as possible by the middle of the 21st century.
Agro-waste busters: A recent promotion has seen a marked increase in numbers bringing recyclable waste to the programme.
The programme encourages recycling of plastic agrichemical, animal health and dairy hygiene containers at 70 collection sites across New Zealand. Over 26 tonnes of container plastic was collected last month - more than since the programme began.
A good cross section of the primary sector are using the programme, including kiwifruit, citrus, potato and bulb growers, vineyards and livestock farmers.
"We continue to see the volume grow as more and more farmers and growers choose sustainable options for disposal over traditional burning and dumping," says Duncan Scotland, sales and marketing manager for Agrecovery.
