Wairarapa fans of the Thin White Duke will get a final chance to view the documentary David Bowie Is on the big screen at Regent 3 Cinema in Masterton tonight as an encore tribute to the late rock and roll chameleon.
Bowie died on January 10 aged 69 after an18-month battle with cancer and Regent 3 Cinema spokesman Theus Goodwin said the theatre is bringing back the film, which sold out last year during its Wairarapa premiere screenings, as an encore salute to the British icon.
The documentary takes the audience to the David Bowie Is exhibition, Mr Goodwin said, which has been seen by a million people worldwide at sell-out shows around the globe.
"It will be the last chance to see this film on the big screen. We premiered it last May for two sessions only and both sold out," he said.
"With the recent passing of David Bowie we've had an overwhelming number of Bowie fans contact us and say they missed out last time or want to see it again. It has been quite extraordinary.
"It seems like many people out there had a bittersweet river of memories come flowing with the sad news of his passing. Many people have said the period when Bowie was at the top were some of the most enjoyable and hedonistic days of their lives."
Masterton boasts an "interesting connection with Bowie" through Hedleys Booksellers in Masterton and owner David Hedley, Mr Goodwin said.
"He has a long-standing relationship with British company Genesis Publications that led to him hosting in 2012 the New Zealand launch of the limited edition Book on Bowie, Speed of Life, by Japanese photographer Masayoshi Sukita.
