Emergency services are responding to a serious crash that has closed a major highway in Canterbury.
It is understood there have been serious injuries in the two-vehicle crash, which occurred near Stonyhurst Rd – about 35km north of the Waipara township.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said they arrived atthe scene shortly after 7.30pm and were not yet in a position to provide comment.
Initial indications suggested the crash involved two vehicles.
The Herald has approached Hato Hone St John for comment.
