Police have recovered the body of a person from the water at Papamoa Beach.
Police said a member of the public discovered the person in the water near Papamoa Beach Rd around 12.45pm.
A formal identification process was under way and could take some time.
Police said they were unable to comment further at this stage.
Reports earlier came in of an emergency response on Papamoa Beach this afternoon.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline said there were fire, police and ambulance staffon the beach, just down from Domain Rd.
“It looks quite intense.”
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said they were notified of an incident at Pāpāmoa Beach at 12:43pm.
“One ambulance and two operations managers attended.”
