Electro-dub collective Knights of the Dub Table will play new songs at their debut Wairarapa show next Saturday.
Knights frontman Reti Hedley, aka Mr Samy'samson, said the collective would play at King Street Live in Masterton on Saturday and would include tunes in the weekend repertoire from their upcoming secondalbum, which is due for release later this year.
Hedley is the songwriting powerhouse behind the Knights, which formed in 2008 while several members were studying music at Wintec in Waikato. He also is a member of Cornerstone Roots and was a founding member of Tui SoundSystem.
Hedley, who is vocalist, lead guitarist and dub table for the Knights, helped found Flax Roots Records as well and has recorded, mixed and produced the entire body of work for the group to date.
The six-piece collective also features Cypher on bass and synths, MC Saximus on saxophone, Professor Strad on trumpet and dubs, Frank'anello on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, and Papa Baritone on saxophone and dubs.
Hedley said the Knights took pride in composing, developing and producing their own music, sound effects and lyrical content from scratch.
The band won the York Street Band Experiments contest in Hamilton in 2009 and to date has released two EPs, Tronic in 2009 and Sing It To Me Remix in 2010, ahead of the release in 2011 of the Knight's debut album, Way of the Dub.
The debut garnered critical acclaim across New Zealand and was nominated for a Maori Music Award.
The Knights also have featured on a clutch of renowned compilation CDs including Dub Zealand 2011, The Best Of Conscious Roots 2012, and an international digital compilation with EDI Productions Europe.
The band has shared the stage as well with some of the genre's best in New Zealand and the world including Katchafire, Ministry of Sound, The Black Seeds, Kora, Groundation, Nesian Mystik, Optimus Gryme, the Open Souls, and Rhombus.
