A 26-year-old man has been arrested after a police pursuit on Auckland's North Shore left an elderly woman with a broken hip.
The woman, 80, fell as she crossed a pedestrian crossing in Milford yesterday morning while police were chasing a vehicle being driven by a man wanted on several charges.
Police spotted the man in the vehicle on Shakespeare Rd but when they switched on the patrol car's flashing lights he fled.
The woman was on a pedestrian crossing and when the fleeing car went by her she instinctively reached out and touched it, losing her balance and falling breaking her hip.
Police abandoned the pursuit and helped the woman who was taken to North Shore Hospital.
Police appealed for the driver to give himself up and said today a man had been arrested.
He was expected to appear in North Shore District Court today on several traffic offences.

Warbirds over Wanaka
Hundreds of aviation enthusiasts turned out to see some impressive aircraft in action yesterday at a preview of the Warbirds over Wanaka show this weekend. The popular event had been grounded for the past six years, partly because of Covid pandemic restrictions. This Easter weekend it returns, with a sellout crowd of more than 60,000 people set to attend today and tomorrow. Photos / George Heard
