Elderly West Auckland man rescued near river

An elderly man was plucked to safety in a rescue basket tonight in West Auckland, after he became stuck down a bank near a river.

The 75-year-old man was reported missing about 7.15pm and was located soon after by Police near Colwill Rd in Massey.

Fire service spokesman Colin Underdown said the man was carried out using a stokes basket and was assessed by an ambulance at the scene.

An ambulance spokeswoman said the man was not transported to hospital.
