A police spokesperson said the single-vehicle crash occurred near Kawakawa Bay around 3.50pm.
"The driver has serious injuries and is awaiting airlift to hospital. Clevedon-Kawakawa Rd remains open," the spokesperson said.

St John spokeswoman Beverley Tse told the Herald they were alerted at 3.44pm.
She said two ambulances and a helicopter had been dispatched to the scene on Clevedon-Kawakawa Rd.

Elsewhere, the NZ Transport is reporting a truck is blocking a lane at the intersection of Neilson St and Captain Springs Rd in Onehunga.
The Agency is also reporting a crash clear of lanes on the Southwestern Motorway after Cavendish Dr heading southbound is causing delays.
