Eketahuna women's rugby coach Cory Miller couldn't remember off the top of his head who scored the tries for his side in their Wellington premier division match with Wainuiomata at Eketahuna on Saturday. And little wonder why as Eketahuna won by a massive 124 to 7 in a game which sawthe second half shortened because of the unevenness of the two sides. Miller said Eketahuna would have scored more than 20 tries, with two players, loose forward Perri Tatana and midfield back Shakira Baker, getting four apiece. Tatana, who repped for Manawatu at NPC level last year, constantly terrorised Wainuiomata with her speed to the breakdown and her constructiveness once she got there, while Baker's strong running made her virtually unstoppable in attacking situations. Eketahuna also benefited immensely from the dominance achieved at lineout time by Koko Namana and Andrea Taiaroa, both of whom also excelled in other areas of the tight forward game. "It was one of those matches where the big test for us was to maintain our structure and we managed to do that through most of the game," Miller said. Next Saturday will see Eketahuna playing Petone at Petone and with Petone being a top-six team last year a much tougher assignment is guaranteed.
