Earthquake Recovery Commission head named

The Government has announced who will head Canterbury's Earthquake Recovery Commission.

It's Director General of Agriculture Murray Sherwin.

The commission will liaise between the district authorities and government on the funding requirements for the recovery effort.

Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says Mr Sherwin knows the inner workings of government and is experienced in recovery having led the agricultural sector through many weather related crises.

He says the commission has a big job ahead of it.
