A magnitude 5.6 earthquake has occurred in the South Island near Te Anau.
The shake happened 40km north of the town at a depth of 67km at 10.52am.
According to GeoNet, close to 3000 people reported feeling the deep quake, which is in a similar spot to the M5.0 tremor
which occured on April 18.
A Herald reader reported feeling the earthquake in Te Kaha in Eastern Bay of Plenty.
