E-scooter rider hit and killed by train in Addington, Christchurch

An e-scooter rider is dead after being hit by a train in Christchurch early this morning.

Police said they were notified at 3.30am that the person had been struck on Lincoln Rd in Addington and had died at the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit was examining the scene, and road closures were in place. Drivers were asked to avoid the area.

A Fire and Emergency southern shift manager said the fire service was called around 3.30am to assist police, but they were not there for long.

All further enquiries were directed to the police.
