Bond said the man dropped the knife and was restrained and handcuffed.
“While officers were searching the suspect, he became physically resistant.
“One officer was bitten under the armpit and was taken to hospital as a precaution.”
The man has been charged with several offences, including unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle, possessing an offensive weapon, resisting police and injuring with intent to injure or reckless disregard.
He has been remanded in custody and is set to reappear in the Dunedin District Court on December 24.
