NZ Police were involved in an early morning search this morning for a man who allegedly fled from the police.
Around 1:40am, the unidentified man was located on the rooftop of a building on Auckland's K-Rd, while the fire department and an Eagle helicopter assisted police.
A drunk reveller climbed to the top of a building on a popular Auckland party strip over night and had to be removed by police.
The man, aged in his 20s, was found on the rooftop of a building on Karangahape Rd around 1.30am.
Police, Fire Service and the policeEagle helicopter were all called to the scene in an attempt to talk the man down.
"There was a guy found on the roof of a building, it seems like he was intoxicated," shift commander Alan Rowland of the Auckland district command centre said.
There was no indication the man had been found following a police chase, Mr Rowland said, contrary to earlier reports. "A guy was seen on a roof and brought down.
He was basically intoxicated." Two fire trucks were called to assist police in bringing the man down from the roof.
He was then handcuffed and put into the back of a patrol car as party-goers on busy K' Rd clapped and cheered, video-footage from the scene shows. The man could face charges of unlawfully being on a building, Mr Rowland said.
A spokeswoman for the Fire Service said firefighters were called to the scene around 1.46am to help remove a police dog from the roof of the building.
