Driver dead after car hits lamp post

A man has died after his car hit a lamp post in Southland this morning.

Police spokesman Mike McRandle said police attended the scene at 3am.

Limehills Browns Road in Otapiri remained closed, and police were still at the scene of the crash, he said.

They hoped to have the road re-opened later this morning.
