Police are hoping camera footage from a service station may help identify a car that crashed into a Waikato cafe early this morning.
A Mazda Familia was seen travelling at high speeds on Great South Rd in Ngaruawahia before crashing through a fence and into a cafe at 2.45am, northern communications Inspector Barry Smalley told NZPA.
The building "has a hole in it where the car struck", Mr Smalley said.
Following the crash, the driver was seen pumping the car's tyres up at a nearby BP station before driving off.
A Ngaruawahia police spokesman said they would look at the service station's video footage today to try to get a registration number for the car.
