The patient, a Feilding man, was airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital in a stable condition.
It is understood the accident occurred as he was turning round to dump soil down the bank.
The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was sent to the scene because of the distance to hospital and the potentially difficult extraction of the patient from the vehicle.
