Te Awamutu police have shared a dramatic photo of a car being torched in the Waikato town early this morning.

"Shortly after 1am some lovely person decided to set fire to this Nissan Primera on Mandeno St," police wrote on Facebook.

"I would love your help in catching the person that did this so if you hear anything private message me.

"Big shout-out to Te Awamutu Volunteer Fire Brigade for putting it out in rapid time," they wrote.

"As for the person that did this, please consider the person who now no longer has a car, along with the emergency services who had to correct your wrong."
