Donating to charity soon to be simplified

Changes are in the pipeline which could allow people to make charitable donations directly from their pay packets.

A discussion paper is due to be released on payroll giving for charity, which would enable people to streamline their donations through their employer's payroll system.

Prime Minister Helen Clark says it came up as an issue during the Asian Tsunami disaster where it was looked at as a private sector initiative.

She says at the time the legislative framework was not in place to allow it.
