Wellington's new morning paper, The Dominion-Post, will hit the streets on Monday, July 8, publisher Independent Newspapers Ltd said today.
INL chief executive Tom Mockridge said the launch date had been confirmed following discussions with staff and unions.
"The feedback we have had from staff and the union is that there is
a desire for certainty over the date. People want to move on," Mr Mockridge said in a statement to the Stock Exchange.
INL announced on Monday it was combining its two Wellington dailies, The Dominion and The Evening Post in an effort to combat falling advertising revenue.
About 90 workers will lose their jobs as a result of the merger.
Mr Mockridge said that while there was sadness and dismay among staff over the loss of the afternoon paper, they accepted the decision to merge the papers has been taken for genuine commercial reasons.
