Dog death case heading for jury trial

A 74-year-old pensioner will go to trial on a charge of ill-treating a pomeranian dog that allegedly died after being left in a car on a hot Christchurch day.

Defence counsel Andrew McKenzie told the Christchurch District Court that Annabell Victoria Quor, of Linwood, "elects to be tried by a jury of her peers".

She is charged that she recklessly ill-treated a male, tan pomeranian dog on December 18, with the result that the animal died.

The charge has been brought by the Canterbury Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Quor was remanded at large to a post-committal conference in the court offices on April 21.
