Diverse tastes in NZ's biggest pirated DVD bust

Investigators boasting the largest seizure of pirated movies in New Zealand, say the haul shows there is a diverse clientele for bootlegged copies.

The joint operation by police and the Federation Against Copyright Theft netted more than 30,000 fake DVDs and more than 10,000 video tapes.

A 45-year-old man is facing four charges under the Copyright Act.

The alarm was raised when a Bollywood movie was found for sale five months before its official release date.

Federation spokesman Tony Eaton said the unusually large number of VHS tapes reflected the number of Indians living in New Zealand who still used the technology.
