Diver missing north of Auckland

A diver is missing off the coast north of Auckland.

Coastguard received a call saying the man had failed to resurface after going underwater early this afternoon just north of Kawau Island.

Spokeswoman Catherine Andrews says the diver hasn't been seen for several hours.

He was last seen about 2.05pm and was due back half an hour later, she said.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, the Coastguard boat and a private vessel are all involved in the search.
