Elisa Gasperini is set to take up a position at the New Zealand Embassy in Berlin
Elisa Gasperini credits her arts degree for her budding career in international diplomacy.
The University of Auckland student has just accepted a position to work at the New Zealand Embassy in Berlin.
As information officer receptionist she will carry out various jobs, and hopes to use the experience and her
bachelor of arts degree to eventually forge a career in diplomacy or international law.
"I'll be acting as the front person for the Embassy, helping to organise events between New Zealanders and Germans," says Elisa.
"This will also give me the chance to attempt to strengthen New Zealand's business relationship within the German business community."
Graduating with a conjoint degree in arts and law, Elisa will feel right at home in Europe.
"I majored in German for my bachelor of arts, which I just loved. Studying their culture, films and history was really fascinating," says the 22-year-old.
I'm fluent in German, French, Spanish and Italian so it will be great to immerse myself back into the European culture."
Of Italian and Kiwi descent, Elisa is no stranger to Europe. She lived in Italy as a child for six years and in Switzerland for a year as a 16-year-old AFS exchange student.
"I stayed in the north-eastern part of Switzerland bordering Germany, which is where I picked up most of my German.
"I've also spent two months at Freiburg University studying German culture on a scholarship.
"Now I can't wait to get over there and get some practical experience," says Elisa.
