Desert Road closed following crash

The Desert Rd is closed after a truck crash early this morning.

No one was injured in the 12.30am crash, a police spokesman said.

The New Zealand Transport Agency said a detour was in place on the section of SH1 between Turangi and Waiouru.

The crash was near the Three Sisters rest area, at a large bend in the road.

NZTA said that because complications with the crash clean-up, the road remained closed.

There would be another update at midday.
