Delays in calling overseas for Vodafone customers

Congestion on international phone lines has seen some Vodafone customers experiencing delays when trying to call or text people overseas.

Vodafone external communications manager Elinore Wellwood said heavy use of the network was causing congestion on international links.

Ms Wellwood said congestion built into peaks as other countries in different time zones celebrated New Year's Eve.

"Our message is to just keep trying."

Ms Wellwood said Vodafone did not expect the problems to continue beyond today.

A Telecom spokesman said there had been "no reports of problems or issues" on its 027 network for customers texting or calling overseas during the New Year period.
