Delays after serious crash on Auckland motorway

A person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a four-car crash on an Auckland motorway.

The crash happened in the westbound lane of State Highway 16 about 11 am.

Police Northern Communications Shift Inspector Cornell Kluessien said the crash initially closed two lanes near the Point Chevalier off ramp.

One person was trapped inside a car, but extracted and taken to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition.

Mr Kluessien said traffic was built up on the motorway, turning it into "a car park".

He said officers were working to clear the roadway quickly.

Crash on Southern Motorway

A nose-to-tail on Auckland's Southern Motorway before the Gillies Rd off-ramp has also caused traffic delays.

Police said the crash was in the middle-lane and happened at 1.15pm.

The scene of the crash has now been cleared, but traffic was heavy on the motorway.
