Death on mudflats

A man died from an apparent heart attack while trying to move his vehicle which stuck on Manukau Harbour mudflats yesterday.

Police were called at 9am and found the 38-year-old from Otahuhu inside his van at the bottom of Waikowhai Park in Hillsborough.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Beard said the man appeared to have suffered a heart attack. Police were awaiting the results of an autopsy.

Mr Beard said the man had driven on to "reasonably firm" mudflats but hit a soft area and become stuck.
