Dead firefighter identified

Police have identified the firefighter who was killed yesterday when his fire engine crashed on the way to a house fire in Foxton.

He was 34-year-old Grant Edward Judd of Foxton Beach, a volunteer with the Fire Service.

Mr Judd died at the scene of the crash, in an urban area of Foxton.

Two other people were injured, and were taken to hospital by helicopter. One has since been released, and the other is expected to be released later today.

The victims' fire engine left the road, crashed through a fence and rolled onto its side, just after midday yesterday. There were no other vehicles involved.

Police and the Fire Service are investigating.
