Dead boatie named

A young man who died in a boating accident off Wanganui on Saturday night was Geoffrey Mark Hampton, 19, from Feilding.

Mr Hampton was on a fishing trip with his father, 44, and the owner of the boat, 32, when the craft became swamped.

Police said the three men were in the water for about 12 hours after the 5m runabout went down.

The survivors were taken to hospital in critical condition. All three were wearing lifejackets.
