Dalziel figures among promoted MPs

Sacked Immigration Minister Lianne Dalziel has been given a promotion, but no extra pay, with her appointment yesterday as a parliamentary private secretary to Youth Affairs Minister Steve Maharey.

Napier MP Russell Fairbrother has also been appointed a parliamentary private secretary, to Finance Minister Dr Michael Cullen in his new role as Attorney-General.

Dr Cullen replaces Margaret Wilson, who will be elected Speaker of Parliament on Thursday.

Mark Burton takes up her responsibilities as Treaty Negotiations Minister.

Tim Barnett (to the Minister of Justice) and Nanaia Mahuta (to the Ministers of Education and Local Government) were also made parliamentary private secretaries.
