Grocers may have to unite to combat crime, as police decide not to investigate some minor incidents.

A shop owner in Manukau City has received a letter from police saying a theft he reported is not a high priority and will not be investigated.

Editor-at-large of Grocers Review, Lisa Williams, says dairy owners in particular spend a lot of money on securing their premises, but they are facing challenging times.

She believes shops will have to discuss the ramifications of the police decision to decide how they can protect themselves and their families.
