WELL DONE: Craig McBeth (left), of DairyNZ, presents Chris Lewis with the Dairy Consultant of the Year award.
Dedication to the New Zealand agricultural industry has resulted in Wairarapa dairy farm consultant Chris Lewis taking out the Dairy Consultant of the Year at the Farmax Consultant of the Year Awards in Hamilton on Monday.
Mr Lewis' agricultural career began after he completed an agricultural science degree at MasseyUniversity and he spent several years working for MAF/Agriculture New Zealand as a consulting officer in Northland, Rotorua and Waipukurau.
Since 1994, Mr Lewis has been a partner and dairy farm consultant at Baker & Associates in Masterton.
Farmax general manager Gavin McEwen said Mr Lewis was heavily involved in the agricultural industry and organisation, offering a unique range of skills and experience.
He said Mr Lewis impressed the judging panel in his nomination form with a proposed project which looked at researching and reporting a review of current quality tools, identifying the need and potential benefit of having a revised suite of performance indices.
Mr Lewis believed that if his research showed up relatively easily captured information, it should lead to the best investment/business development decisions being made on the ongoing use of resources that might help farmers understand what a change in physical performance could realise.
