Cyclist seriously injured after being struck by car

A male cyclist suffered serious injuries while on an afternoon bike ride when he collided with a vehicle turning into a driveway north of Auckland.

The accident happened at about 1pm on Saturday in Kaukapakapa, just north of Helensville, Rodney.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene and treated the man, in his 30s, as he lay on the road. It is thought he had been cycling at a speed of about 60kmph when he struck the car.

A photo at the accident shows a visibly large dent in the back left door of the vehicle. Nearby, paramedics work on the man while other authorities cordon off part of the road.
The cyclist was taken to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition.
